(Brampton, ON) The OIWFA season kicked off Friday evening with the Warriors heading to Brampton to play their first of two cross-over series this weekend vs the Ryerson Rams.
GAME 1: Ryerson 6, Waterloo 5
Waterloo led the majority of this game, however the Rams kept chipping away and had some clutch hits late in the game to earn the 1-run win over the Warriors. Sarah Schywiola started the game offensively for the Warriors with an RBI in the first inning. A three run 5th inning included a 2 run single from last season's rookie of the year Marissa Melanson.
Melanson also started on the rubber for the Warriors in this game, and pitched 5 innings allowing 3 runs. Guen O'Hara pitched in relief, and allowed the winning run (unearned) to score on a sacrafice fly in the 6th inning.
Waterloo left 2-runners on in the 7th, and couldn't cash them in.
GAME 2: Waterloo 15, Ryerson 8
A big first inning propelled the Warriors in the 2nd game of the night vs Ryerson. After allowing the Rams to score 2-runs in their half of the first inning the Warriors responded with 6-runs including RBI's from Sarah Schywiola, Nina Gabert & 2-more from Amanda Clarke. The game then went back and forth with both sides scoring many more runs. In the bottom of the 5th Waterloo finally secured the runs needed to win the game on the run-rule. Guen O'Hara, Schywiola each had three hits for the Warriors.
Gabert earned the win, and Guen O'Hara came in late to earn the save.
